All About Porch Nite… and Why YOU Should Join Us!

June 15, 2020

We know just how challenging it has been for our families in the past several months. We’re all adjusting and doing our best and it is important to take a break and talk things out. Through one of our many programs, Porch Nite, Duchenne community moms come together to support other moms, lending an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Moms: we want you to join us at one of our upcoming virtual Porch Nite events! Read on for more on everything Porch Nite like, what to expect, and why moms in our community love it.

Porch Nite was founded in 2018 by Dana Edwards and Perlita Hains, Jett Foundation Community Ambassadors, and moms of children affected by Duchenne. They wanted to bring love, support, and laughter to other mothers affected by Duchenne across the United States.

Since its launch, Porch Nite has transformed into a national caregiver support program for moms that focuses on building stronger support systems for families affected by Duchenne in their local community through story-telling, education, and grief-management.

Why Moms Join

At times like this, social distancing is very challenging for some people. It can be very hard not to see your loved ones–family, friends, or partners–for an extended period of time. Right now, joining Porch Nite is a safe way for mothers to stay in touch with fellow Duchenne community members and talk about important topics like care for their children, mental health, coping and advice, resources, the joys of motherhood, and more. Here’s what our moms have to say about why they joined:

“My perspective on Duchenne has changed for the better after attending Porch Nite. I have been able to meet other moms who are or have been where I am. Some of their kids are older and this is a huge inspiration to me.”

“The greatest strength of the program was the communication with other moms that understand what our family is going through and the wonderful encouragement that I received and hopefully gave to others.”

“The whole experience of Porch Nite was great and encouraging to me. I saw some friends I already had and made some new ones that understand the road my family is on.”

How To Join

Amidst the challenges of COVID-19, and the need to protect those vulnerable to the virus, our beloved Porch Nite program has been virtually hosted via Zoom!

Each Porch Nite event is free and open on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 25 registrants. After you register, you will receive an email with the details to join the Zoom call.
