This month, we are excited to start our new #CPSpotlight series! This is a new way for us to celebrate with campers and share with our community the things that you’re involved in and excited about.
For our first ever spotlight, we spoke with six-year Camp Promise-West veteran, Kris Napper. We had a fun Q&A with him; read on to share in his spotlight and find out how you can be featured in the future.
What are you most proud of and wish to share with the camp promise community?
Snappy Clothing- A business that I launched that allows me to use my graphic design skills.
How long have you been involved with snappy clothing?
I launched Snappy Clothing in 2014, but I’ve been doing graphic design work since the early 2000s.
What got you interested/started in graphic design?
As a kid, I loved to draw. As I got older and drawing became more physically challenging, I acquired copies and taught myself to use photoshop and illustrator. Through high school, I started networking through MySpace to acquire freelance design work. I continued freelancing and building my client-base through college, and realized some of my favorite projects to work on were creating designs for t-shirts! Seeing people enjoy and appreciate my art to the point that they would want to wear it on their chest was very rewarding!
What are some specific details about snappy clothing that people should know?
As a disabled individual that receives a lot of help and assistance, I love being able to use my design abilities to give back… be that designing art for Miss Wheelchair WA, the MDAdventures logo, the Camp Promise t-shirts, or various projects for friends, etc. That being said, this is how I make my living, so I also very much appreciate it when people, businesses, organizations, etc. hire me/Snappy Clothing to create designs or produce custom clothing for them!
Have you been able to work these skills into your camp experience?
Not only mine but everybody’s camp experience! Without throwing too much shade, (hopefully) there was a Camp Promise t-shirt a few years ago that I felt I could have created a better design. So after camp, I contacted the Camp Directors and offered to work with them to create the following year’s t-shirt design, and I’ve been doing it ever since!
What has been your favorite project/part that you have worked on?
It’s hard to pick just one, but as a big sports fan, I’ve enjoyed doing design work for the athletic departments at various local high schools and colleges. I’ve also really enjoyed creating merchandise for local recording artists, producing staff jackets for departments at various hospitals, and of course, creating designs for camp!
