Help the Miller Family Fund an Accessible Vehicle

Help Aaron Stay Mobile, Safe, and Included

For Aaron Miller, a Duchenne diagnosis has shaped nearly every aspect of daily life since he was diagnosed at the age of 10. Duchenne is a progressive neuromuscular disorder causing a lack of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function.

Aaron is now 18 years old and lives with both Duchenne muscular dystrophy and autism. He is a loving, spirited young man who thrives when he’s out in the world, surrounded by music, people, and energy. The Miller family loves to gather with friends, host parties, and attend music festivals together. Being out, engaged, and experiencing life as a family brings Aaron joy and comfort. But getting there has become increasingly difficult and dangerous.

Aaron is fully dependent on a wheelchair for mobility and should be using a power wheelchair full time for safety and independence. Unfortunately, the family’s current vehicle is not accessible and cannot accommodate Aaron’s power chair or equipment. Each outing requires manual transfers into the front seat of the vehicle – an exhausting and risky process made even more concerning by Aaron’s low bone density and increasing weight. His mother worries constantly that a single wrong movement could cause a serious injury to Aaron or herself.

Because of these limitations, the Millers have had to drastically cut back on outings beyond school and therapy appointments. Fun activities—things that once brought the family together—are often avoided simply because the physical toll of getting in and out of the car is too great. As a single-parent household, the need for an accessible vehicle outweighs what current resources could support otherwise.

An accessible vehicle would immediately and dramatically improve Aaron’s quality of life. It would allow him to remain safely seated in his wheelchair during transportation, eliminate unsafe transfers, and enable him to use a power wheelchair that provides greater comfort, dignity, and independence. It would also allow the Miller family to return to doing what they love most: being together, out in the community, fully included.

Through Jett Foundation’s Accessible Vehicle Fund, the Miller family is working to fundraise half the cost or more for their accessible vehicle. Once that goal is reached, Jett Foundation will step in to cover the remaining costs and coordinate the purchase and delivery.

Your support helps ensure Aaron can stay mobile, safe, and connected to the world around him without fear, without barriers, and with dignity.

Consider helping Aaron attain the freedom and independence he deserves by contributing toward his fundraising goal below!

All donations to Jett Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed under applicable law and is an unrestricted contribution to the Jett Giving Fund. The family is working to raise half the funds needed for their van or more; when they reach their goal, Jett Foundation will cover the remaining costs and coordinate purchase and delivery of the vehicle.
