A Weekend of Connection & Fun: Recapping Porch Nite 2026 in Johnson City, Texas

September 10, 2026

Jett Foundation recently hosted an in-person Porch Nite, one of Jett Foundation’s support groups for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and caregivers of individuals impacted by Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in Johnson City, Texas. From August 28-30, 14 women gathered for a Cowgirl Luau-themed weekend retreat hosted by Jett Foundation community ambassadors Rae Lorance and Sophia Gonzalez.

The weekend was filled with laughter, connection, and plenty of fun, with activities ranging from nature walks and conversations on the swing to shared meals around the dinner table. Throughout the weekend, attendees had countless opportunities to get to know one another, build lasting friendships, and share their experiences navigating life as caregivers of someone living with Duchenne.

Guests received welcome bags upon arriving Friday before spending the evening enjoying good food and relaxing by the pool. Saturday brought even more adventure, starting with a pancake breakfast followed by a scavenger hunt. That evening, the women enjoyed a private chef experience featuring a delicious, freshly prepared three-course meal. The night continued with mocktails and cocktails, painting, and board games.

By Sunday, the weekend had gone by all too quickly, and no one was ready to say goodbye. Many attendees expressed interest in making the retreat an annual tradition. “I showed up with tons of emotions and left with a peaceful heart! I loved everything about this weekend, especially getting to know other DMD moms and sharing our experiences,” said Porch Nite attendee Martha Gonzalez.

For Porch Nite attendee Ashley Ochoa, the retreat provided a much-needed break from her daily routine and the challenges that life can sometimes bring. “Porch Nite was what my soul needed. There was community, laughter and peace, and a break from the heaviness we as Duchenne moms carry every day. Most importantly we had fun. Sometimes we get so caught up in the everyday tasks we forget to take care of ourselves, and this weekend allowed us to do that.”

Host Rae Lorance also reflected on the experience of bringing the weekend together. “I had such a great time planning this! Everything came together perfectly and all the women were awesome! We played games, laughed, swam, relaxed, ate a lot, and explored the property! Most importantly, we connected as DMD moms and became friends!”

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Porch Nite. We hope you had a blast and left feeling refreshed and fulfilled! A special thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, as well as our sponsors, Sarepta, NS Pharma, Catalyst, Edgewise, Avidity, Regenxbio, and Entrada, whose support allows Jett Foundation to host meaningful events like this.

Registration is now open for Jett Foundation’s remaining virtual 2026 Porch Nite events now through November. Be on the lookout for more in-person Porch Nite retreats next year. We hope to see you there!
