Camp Promise – West: Monumental Moments and Lifelong Connections

June 26, 2025

Camp Promise – West 2025 is officially in the books – and what a week it was! From canoeing to karaoke, nightly campfires to the safari dance, this year was bursting with unforgettable moments, new friendships, and a lot of laughter.

Hosted once again at the fully accessible Camp Korey in Mount Vernon, WA, Camp Promise – West welcomed our spirited community of campers and volunteers for a week that celebrated inclusion, creativity, and good old-fashioned camp fun. Whether it was someone’s first year or their fifth, every person brought something special to camp – and left with remarkable memories.

Camp Promise was founded in 2009 where in just six weeks, we found a wheelchair-accessible camp facility for individuals living with neuromuscular disorders, filled an activities calendar for the week, enrolled campers and volunteers, and raised enough money to pay for it all. Fast forward to 2025, Camp Promise holds camp at seven different locations across the country, in addition to one Camp Promise Virtual Weekend for all to join from home.

Our week in Mount Vernon kicked off with check-in and orientation, where campers were greeted with cheers from volunteers and staff. They then decorated mailboxes and chef hats while setting up their cabin spaces. By the time dinner rolled around, camp was buzzing with excitement to be back with our favorite cabinmates. The night ended on a high note with Camp Promise Top Chef, where culinary creativity stole the floor.

Each day at camp promise was packed with unique programming and activities tailored to a wide range of interests and abilities. Some highlights being:

  • Tie Dye with Ezra and Alex where campers turned plain tees into rainbow masterpieces.
  • Archery and Accessible Biking gave campers the thrill of outdoor adventure.
  • Swimming and Camp Clubs brought people together for relaxation and connection.
  • Dungeons & Dragons, Trivia, and Finish the Lyric challenge campers to use their minds to compete.
  • The Game Truck was a crowd favorite, bringing gaming excitement to camp.

Beyond the packed schedule, what makes Camp Promise so special is the sense of community. The support and fun each experience provides are difficult to translate into words. The cabins, dining halls, and the pavilion became the space where significant conversations, inside jokes, and mutual understanding will last forever.

“The small moments this year are the ones I will never forget,”  shares Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise Operations Director, Niki Benfield. “There’s nothing like sitting around the campfire with a group of campers and volunteers, singing our favorite songs and laughing with one another.”

To our volunteers who created an environment for impromptu late nights, unwavering commitment, and helping fit every activity into our packed schedule: THANK YOU for being the backbone of our week. Their dedication helped make camp a week full of magic and cheer.

As campers hugged goodbye and packed up their decorated hats and tie-dye tees, one sentence kept repeating through the cabins: “See you next year!” Because once you experience Camp Promise, you know it’s not just one week. It’s a tradition, a family, and a highlight of every summer.

Our success also would not be possible without our incredible donors and sponsors, including Cure Dale’s Duchenne, The Flatley Foundation, Sarepta Therapeutics, NS Pharma, Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, Edgewise Therapeutics, Entrada Therapeutics, ITF Therapeutics, The Killian Family, Transamerica, Prisma Health, REGENXBIO, Ultragenyx, and Yale Appliance.

We can’t wait to see what memories we’ll make next year. Until then, thank you to everyone who made Camp Promise – West 2025 a truly unforgettable experience.
