As Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise family continues to grow each year through both in-person and virtual opportunities, we are continually appreciative to return to locations such as Camp Promise – East in Brackney, PA every summer. This year, we hosted a mix of returning and new individuals coming from many states in the Northeast region. Twenty-seven campers and thirty-five volunteers enjoyed a jam-packed week of magic from August 11-16.
Campers were dropped off by their families to kick off Cabin Color Day, an annual favorite, when cabins compete to see who can shine in the most colorful spirit. We made name tags, cabin flags, putted during mini golf, and answered tough questions during Camp Promise Jeopardy, all during day one!
The week continued on broomsticks during Hogwarts Day and on a 70’s vibe during Tie Dye Era day. Campers and counselors bonded on pontoon boat rides, during conversation hours, casino night, hayrides, song lyric workshops, movie night, and campfires! Other themes included Grunge Day and Camp T-Shirt Day.
Photos of our activities at Camp Promise – East can be found on our Facebook album.
It is a treat for our staff and volunteers to host many great personalities across all camp locations. We guided East campers through many firsts, favorites, and fun days. One camper shares, “I attended Camp Promise – East for the first time ever. I was anxious to meet some of my friends that I have known online for years and to make new friends. By the end of the week I can say that I not only made new friends and nurtured existing friendships, but I gained a family for life.”
Jett’s Camp Promise Operations Director Niki Benfield says, “We as staff could not be more blessed to receive a mix of new and traditional moments throughout the summer. It is exhilarating to meet new people and visit new places, but just as special to return to the same ones each summer. Our Camp Promise – East family is one we always look forward to hosting and is an amazing crew to close out the summer months with.”
Camp Promise Program Director Meghan Houston also shares, “Spirit at Camp Promise is made up of so many large and small things. Every costume, decoration, accent, personality, and smile brings a type of nature that is hard to put into words. All I know is that I wouldn’t trade it for the world and can’t thank volunteers, campers and their families enough for making these days just as magical for us as we hope it is for them.”
