Camp Promise Virtual Weekend brought campers together for another opportunity to connect, have fun, and experience the spirit of camp from home. Some campers joined for the first time, while others returned for more time with friends. Throughout the weekend, campers participated in a variety of activities, games, hangout hours, and late-night events. Just like in-person camp, each day featured a different theme, including Ren Faire, Radical 80s, and Superheroes vs. Villains.
Campers arrived via Zoom on Friday, making Camp Promise name tags and magical potions to kick things off. Embracing the Ren Faire theme, campers tested their knowledge with trivia questions like, “What kind of entertainer would you find at a royal court telling jokes,” and “What Disney movie is loosely inspired by Renaissance Italy and features an inventor girl?” Campers 16 and older then gathered for hangout hour, where Adith, a camper from Camp Promise – East, took on the role of Dungeon Master for a Dungeon & Dragons adventure. He created characters for the group, who continued their campaign throughout the weekend. Later, campers teamed up to solve the Camp Red Herring escape room, helping Camp Counselor Jackson identify the masked vigilante known as the Bag Man. To wrap up the evening, those 18 and older played a lively game of Fibbage, testing their bluffing skills.
Saturday consisted of lava lamp making and a Mario Kart tournament. Campers then put their culinary creativity to work in a Top Ramen cook-off, creating unique bowls with eggs, vegetables, and spicy add-ins before enjoying their meals together. Later, participants traveled back to the 80s for Jeopardy, with two teams competing across categories including music, TV shows, movies, toys and trends, and major events.
For the final day of camp, campers created comic strips and joined a Superheroes vs. Villains Family Feud-style game. Teams guessed popular answers to questions such as naming a well-known superhero or a villain who wants to rule the world. For the evening spotlight activity, campers played Musical Emojis, guessing songs from emoji clues. To close Camp Promise Virtual Weekend, adults ages 21 and older joined a paint and sip event, learning to make drinks like the Pink Starburst and Irish Mule while creating custom watercolor paintings.
Erica, a two year camper, says she’s thankful for all Camp Promise has done for her. “I am so grateful for Camp Promise, especially their virtual weekend option because it allows me to access all the camp fun from home. We get sent a box of fun goodies to follow each day’s events and it’s a great time! I loved potion making this year with glitter and the Fibbage online games we played 18+ as a group!”
The laughter, unity, and sense of community that make Camp Promise so special were just as strong online. Camp Promise Virtual Weekend gave campers a chance to form meaningful connections and make memories that they’ll carry with them for a lifetime.
“Virtual camp has become such a special place. Where we gather and play silly games, learn something together, or do fun activities. All the while making new friends with new memories. I really liked doing our Ramen Nailed It! Challenge. The activity box came with some ramen and seasonings and the rest of the recipe was up to the chef. So many unique ramen combos, it was so fun to enjoy a meal together!” says Meghan McBride, Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise Program Director.
