The Magic in Mount Vernon: Camp Promise – West 2026

July 28, 2026

From June 7th through the 11th, the beautiful rolling hills of Mount Vernon, Washington, became the backdrop for an unforgettable week at Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise – West 2026. From the very moment campers settled into their cabins, the atmosphere was charged with the excitement of old friends reuniting and new bonds forming. Even when the Washington weather turned a little gloomy, the camp spirit remained entirely untouched.

Our days quickly filled with shared laughter, proud achievements, and the unmistakable magic that only happens when this incredible community comes together. Campers threw themselves into every adventure, whether they were testing their strategy in a Dungeons & Dragons quest, showing off their unique styles on Cabin Color Day, or rolling the dice during a high-energy Casino Night.

Every corner of camp offered a new opportunity to make memories and celebrate inclusion. Campers got creative with tie-dye, custom capes, and masks, transforming arts & crafts into a gallery of self-expression. Outside, they tested their aim at archery, faced off in the epic Knights & Steeds Tournament, made a splash in the pool, and hit the trails for accessible biking.

Thanks to a special visit from Permobil, campers also enjoyed a Tune-Up Station to keep their chairs running smoothly. Volunteering their time and expertise the Permobil team fixed, adjusted, and optimized campers’ wheelchairs right on site.

Camper Chris shared: “Having Permobil volunteer their time at camp to work on my wheelchair was incredible. When something small is off—like the joystick sitting a little crooked or my positioning shifting—it affects every part of my day, and waiting weeks for a vendor appointment just isn’t workable. The fact that they showed up, offered their expertise, and fixed those “minor” issues on the spot made a huge functional difference for me.”

As the sun set, the energy stayed high with a retro 80s night, the playful chaos of Kangaroo Court, and a Karaoke Mocktail Bar where everyone sang their hearts out. The last night of camp wrapped up the best way we know how: gathered close around a warm campfire with friends before capping off the week dancing the night away at our magical Under the Sea Dance.

Reflecting on the beautiful whirlwind of the week, Camp Promise Program Director Meghan McBride captured the heart of the experience perfectly:

“While the weather was a little gloomy, we kept the parade going! So many crafts and games, dancing and singing, and everything in between. We really made the best of our time together in the rolling hills of Washington. Accessible biking and karaoke night are always my favorite. A true testament that camp is a place to step out of your comfort zone and do something that makes you proud of yourself. So many proud moments taken home like mementos.”

An extraordinary week like this is only possible because of a dedicated network of people who believe in breaking down barriers for our community. We are endlessly grateful to our counselors, medical staff, and volunteers who poured their hearts into these five days.

We also want to extend our deepest thanks to the generous sponsors whose vital support keeps Camp Promise 100% free for our families: Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, Cure Dale’s Duchenne, The Flatley Foundation, Sarepta Therapeutics, NS Pharma, Entrada Therapeutics, ITF Therapeutics, The Killian Family, Tall Cedars Foundation, Edgewise, Transamerica, and Ultragenyx. Thank you all for helping our campers take home a lifetime of memories and proud moments.
