Jett Foundation hosted another unforgettable session of Camp Promise – Ohio in Akron, Ohio from June 30th to July 3rd, 2025. This free, overnight camp welcomed 22 campers and 29 volunteers for four incredible days filled with laughter, connection, and classic Camp Promise magic.
Camp Promise brings together teens and young adults living with neuromuscular disorders for an accessible, inclusive, and joy-filled summer camp experience. For many, it’s a highlight of the year; an opportunity to reunite with friends, make new memories, and enjoy independence in a safe, supportive environment.
This year’s schedule was packed with a creative lineup of themed days and engaging activities:
- TV Shows Day (June 30): Campers arrived to warm welcomes and jumped right into activities like fishing, crafts, learning about 3D printing, and had a special Coffee Talk about driving. Evening entertainment included “Squid Games Color Wars” and Saturday Night Live skits.
- Movies Day (July 1): From Coffee Talk on entrepreneurship to an afternoon ropes course and boating, the day ended with Movie Charades and the Camp Promise Comedy Awards.
- Music Day (July 2): Campers dove into a discussion on independent living, followed by kayaking, card games, and DJ DeAngelo’s “Rex Lake Night Club” after a campfire and s’mores.
- Video Games/Animation/Art Day (July 3): A talk on adaptive technology kicked off the final day, and campers rounded out the session with more crafts, kayaking, and creative hobbies before heading home.
Even with a full agenda, there was always room for spontaneous fun and the kind of moments that make camp so special, like lakeside chats, surprise dance parties, and watching campers shine in talent-filled evening activities.
Throughout the week, the energy was high, the bonds grew stronger, and the smiles never stopped. Behind the scenes, our amazing volunteers made it all possible, working tirelessly to ensure campers had the support they needed to participate fully in every aspect of camp life.
Jett Foundation’s Director of Programs Alexa Tinsley, who attended Camp Promise – Ohio, shares: “As staff, we truly look forward to these moments all year long – the laughter, the friendships, the growth we witness in just a few days. It’s an incredible privilege to be part of something that means so much to our campers and volunteers. Being at camp reminds us exactly why we do what we do.”
