Duchenne Community Participates in Jett Foundation’s National Challenge

June 23, 2023

Over the weekend of June 9-11, 2023, members of the Duchenne community participated in Jett Foundation’s fourth annual National Challenge. This event encourages individuals, families, organizations, and more to find their own way to move from home to raise funds and awareness for families impacted by Duchenne.

Lebanon, PA Walk

This year, the community embarked on bike rides, swimming events, family walks, group hikes, fitness studio classes, and more. Over 100 participants across 11 states raised nearly $13,000 and counting to directly support Jett Foundation’s mission-driven programs. A special shout out to Dyne Therapeutics, who were our top fundraising team, and Raza Zaidi, who was our top individual fundraiser.

Raza Zaidi and his friends, Alex and Ye, swam in the Great Chesapeake 4.4 Mile Bay Swim for Jett Foundation’s National Challenge. Raza says, ”It was an honor to participate in the National Challenge benefiting Jett Foundation. Though the conditions were tough that day, the experience was AMAZING and I can’t wait to return again to tackle the distance!”

Strength In Numbers Fitness, located in Berlin, CT, held exercise classes for Duchenne once again this year. Gym members and their families took on rowing machines, fan bikes, battle ropes, boxing sessions, and more in honor of Jett Foundation’s National Challenge. The group’s Move-A-Thon event benefits families impacted by Duchenne each year and Jett Foundation is very thankful to the studio for their continued support.

SIN Fitness, Berlin, CT

Jamie McCue, owner of SIN Fitness, shares, “The Move-A-Thon holds a special place in my heart, as it is dedicated to raising funds for research and support for children like my good friend’s son: Jordan, who bravely battles Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The Move-A-Thon was filled with members dressed in red to show their support for Jett Foundation and Jordan.”

Perlita Hains, a Jett Foundation Community Ambassador and mother to Levi who has Duchenne, organized a walk in her community of Lebanon, PA. Over 40 of the Hains’ neighbors and fellow community members gathered to raise awareness for Duchenne.

Jett Foundation is very grateful for all individuals and families from across the country who participated in this year’s National Challenge. Funds and awareness raised through Team Jett and our National Challenge continue to support families impacted by Duchenne through programs, resources, awareness days, and more.

Donations through participant fundraising pages are open until June 30, 2023, and Jett Foundation’s general donation page accepts donations year round.

Team Jett will also participate in the Cohasset Triathlon, Falmouth Road Race, Gals for Cal Triathlon, and Rodman Ride for Kids to raise funds and awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy this summer. Learn more and register to join our team at www.jettfoundation.org/team-jett.
