Following a webinar on Jett Foundation’s Community Webinar Series titled “Practical Applications of 3D Printing,” Jett Foundation surprised the Duchenne community by holding a 3D Printer Giveaway for one lucky winner.
The webinar stirred excitement for those who attended, with guest speakers Bruce Ward and Matthew Bollinger offering examples and advice for those who wish to implement 3D printing into their accessibility efforts. Bruce Ward is the father of a 12-year-old boy, Gavin, who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Matthew Bollinger, a bright and knowledgeable man eager to share advice and experiences with others, has sadly passed since. He lived with Duchenne muscular dystrophy with a passion for exploring mechanical and scientific ways to make life more accessible. Matthew utilized his 3D printer for giving his dog treats (Dog Treat Cannon), swiveling desk trays, unique installations on power wheelchairs, door latches, and much more.
After the announcement on our Community Webinar and many online submissions on how individuals would benefit from this 3D printer, Jett Foundation selected Matthew Wood at random, granting him this unique tool for daily use. Matthew is 22 years old living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, he enjoys movies, video games, animals, and ordering takeout with his family.
“Matthew has made a 3D version of his black lab service dog, Kaz,” shares his mother, Teresa. “He hopes to make tools and equipment for other disabled people as well.”
The team at Jett Foundation is grateful to Bruce Ward and Matthew Bollinger for sharing this unique avenue toward accessibility, as well as all who attended the webinar and submitted an entry for the 3D Printer Giveaway.
Matthew Bollinger will forever be remembered and appreciated by Jett Foundation for his generosity and kindness toward others.
