The final in-person Camp Promise experience of the 2023 season was just as magical and touching as the rest. This time, 32 campers and 36 volunteers gathered in Brackney, PA from August 14-19 to create many laughs, memories, pranks, and more.
The crew wasted no time as they enjoyed the shimmer of the pond on an accessible pontoon boat on day one, followed by a spike in energy at Cabin Olympics in the evening (shout out to Red Cabin who are our East Cabin Olympic champions!).
The beakers and goggles came out for day two as many mad scientists roamed the grounds of Arrowhead Bible Camp, where campers also took a tour on an accessible hayride! Other highlights of the week in Pennsylvania include a Connect Four Tournament (congrats to Purple Cabin’s Molly!), archery, a petting zoo, movie night, karaoke, a bubbly foam party, and more.
Jett Foundation’s Development Events Manager, Emily Hubert, bled Green Cabin’s colors throughout the week as a counselor. She shares, “Camp Promise allowed me to experience a new level of trust and professional care for families we serve. Seeing the joy on a camper’s face each day as we take on new hobbies and create new friendships is a memorable adventure.”
Emily and her camper, Aaden, dominated the ping pong table, toured the whole pond on a paddle boat, and bonded over many games. “Camp Promise brings together selfless volunteers, thoughtful staff and enthusiastic campers to experience new adventures, bond with old and new friends and provide many late night laughs,” says Emily. “It’s wonderful to see the respite the parents and caregivers have throughout the week knowing their loved ones are in great hands.”
Jett Foundation is very grateful to all campers, families, volunteers, staff, sponsors and supporters for allowing us to provide another successful summer full of on-the-ground Camp Promise experiences.
Jett’s Camp Promise Program Director, Meghan Houston, shares: “Bringing campers and volunteers together for another camp season in person fills my cup all the way to the top. Coming “home” to our campers for the week of camp is such a wonderful feeling. We were able to bring back vendors and exciting activities this year such as adaptive cycling, foam parties, reptile zoos, and a DJ spinning the tunes for our dance. These memories carry us until we can be back together again.”
Camp experiences would not be possible without our dedicated sponsors. Thank you to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Flatley Foundation, Sarepta Therapeutics, Alexion Charitable Foundation, Italfarmaco, and PTC Therapeutics for their continued support.
