Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise wrapped up a fun-filled 2024 tour by visiting Big Bear, California for the first ever Camp Promise – SoCal from October 12-13. Our 18+ only camps are designed specifically for individuals 18-and-older who live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and select neuromuscular disorders.
The crew at SoCal was an enthusiastic and spirit-filled group of campers and volunteers. We enjoyed the beautiful site at Camp Oakes that offered a gorgeous fishing pond, long range archery, kayak tours, beautiful views, and much more.
“Our agenda was so packed with must-do’s that it was hard to get through it all!” shares Jett Foundation’s Camp Promise Program Director, Meghan Houston. “What’s most important is that we enjoyed every second of our time together this October. Whether it was a storytelling circle or group kayak rides, this group kept the energy flowing for the entirety of the weekend.”
In addition to the many memories made, campers took home with them custom name tags, personalized candles, archery skills, and tuned vocals from karaoke night.
Jett’s Camp Promise Operations Director, Niki Benfield, says “Each stop on the Camp Promise tour has special memories and there is no doubt we will remember the first ever SoCal retreat! I can’t thank this tight-knit group of counselors and campers enough for being the perfect ingredients to an unforgettable weekend.”

The success of Camp Promise programming would not be possible without many generous community members and sponsors. Specifically, we would like to thank Cure Dale’s Duchenne, the Flatley Foundation, Sarepta Therapeutics, Dyne Therapeutics, ITF Therapeutics, the Killian Family, the Nicholoff Family, Ultragenyx, and Yale Appliance.
