Raising Funds for an Accessible Van

Alex Anderson is eight years old living in Royse City, Texas with his parents, Amanda and Carl. With a heart full of love and a brain that seeks adventure, one major challenge stands in the way of him exploring the world: getting from point A to point B with his power wheelchair.
Alex lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive neuromuscular disorder causing a loss of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function. Since his diagnosis at just five years old, Alex’s muscles have progressively declined, taking away his ability to walk and requiring his parents to lift him everywhere they go. With no vehicle to fit his wheelchair and too high of a risk to manually carry Alex, the Anderson family finds themselves confined to their home with limited ability to help Alex explore the world.
His mother, Amanda, says, “Going outside is all Alex wants to do, but I am very limited in how I can give him that. This disease has progressed so fast that I can no longer take him anywhere on my own.”

Alex experiences discomfort on the school bus every morning as he cannot transfer to a seat. To make medical appointments, Carl does all of the lifting, risking both he and his son’s safety. An accessible vehicle would allow his parents to bring places independently. “Soon I will be able to roll into the van by myself and not worry about getting wet from rain,” shares Alex.
Thanks to Duchenne conferences, the Anderson family found the team at Jett Foundation. Now as participants in the Accessible Vehicle Fund branch of the Jett Giving Fund, they are navigating fundraising half or more of the necessary funds for their accessible vehicle before Jett Foundation covers the remaining expenses and purchases the vehicle outright.
The Anderson family has met their fundraising goal and received accessible transportation thanks to supporters like you! You can still support our program and future program participants with a gift to Jett Foundation today:

All donations to Jett Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed under applicable law and is an unrestricted contribution to the Jett Giving Fund. The family is working to raise half the funds needed for their van or more; when they reach their goal, Jett Foundation will cover the remaining costs and coordinate purchase and delivery of the vehicle.
