For the Bonano-Concepcion family, reliable and accessible transportation is not a convenience; it is a necessity for daily life, medical care, and independence.
As a devoted single mother, Evelyn works tirelessly to meet the needs of her children, including three sons who live with significant physical challenges due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy and rely on wheelchairs for mobility. Over time, their needs have increased, and they now require power wheelchairs, which is heavier and far more difficult to transport safely without an accessible vehicle.
Duchenne is a progressive neuromuscular disorder causing a lack of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function.
Currently, the family’s vehicle is not wheelchair accessible, forcing exhausting transfers and creating daily barriers to attending medical appointments, school activities, and community events. As her sons grow and their mobility needs continue to change, lifting and maneuvering them into a standard vehicle has become increasingly difficult and unsafe.
An accessible vehicle would be truly life-changing for the Bonano-Concepcion family. With a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, the whole family would be able to travel safely, comfortably, and with dignity, remaining seated in wheelchairs while entering and exiting the vehicle. This would significantly reduce physical strain on Evelyn while allowing the family to focus on what matters most: time together, health, and quality of life.
Through the Accessible Vehicle Fund, a branch of the Jett Giving Fund, Jett Foundation supports families like the Bonano-Concepcions by helping offset the cost of accessible transportation. These vehicles are essential but often financially out of reach, placing an overwhelming burden on families already navigating complex medical and caregiving needs.
With community support, the Bonano-Concepcion family is working toward fundraising half or more for their vehicle. Once their goal is reached, Jett Foundation will step in to cover remaining costs and coordinate delivery of the vehicle.
