Brumer Family

Raising Funds for an Accessible Vehicle

The Brumer Family lives in Florence, Kentucky, and is facing many challenges that come with a Duchenne muscular dystrophy diagnosis each day. Daniel Brumer (12) was diagnosed with Duchenne at six years old. Duchenne is a progressive neuromuscular disorder that causes a loss of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function. Daniel lives with his grandmother, Denise, and their cat, Peaches.

Daniel loves video games, movies, and traveling with his grandmother, who has tried to find ways to give Daniel adventures ever since his diagnosis. “Since Daniel lost the ability to use his legs, I’ve had to lift him to get around, which progressively has gotten harder,” shares Denise. “Daniel has fallen to the ground while I try to manually lift him into our car. If we have an accessible van, he would be able to drive right in when it’s time to go anywhere.”

Daniel and Denise also have a hard time attending medical appointments, as they need a lot of help to travel with their current situation. Amidst many challenges and struggles, Denise says they heard about the Jett Giving Fund through a social worker at their hospital and other Duchenne organizations.

As participants in Jett Foundation’s Accessible Vehicle Fund branch of the Jett Giving Fund, the Brumer Family will aim to raise half or more of the funds needed for their accessible vehicle before Jett Foundation steps in to cover the remaining costs and purchase the vehicle outright.

“We’re looking forward to traveling to everyday activities together, going to the movies, and letting Daniel get into a vehicle by himself,” says Denise.

The Brumer family has met their fundraising goal and received accessible transportation thanks to supporters like you! You can still support our program and future program participants with a gift to Jett Foundation today:

All donations to Jett Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed under applicable law and is an unrestricted contribution to the Jett Giving Fund. The family is working to raise half the funds needed for their van or more; when they reach their goal, Jett Foundation will cover the remaining costs and coordinate purchase and delivery of the vehicle.
