Hembree Family

Fundraising for an Accessible Van

The Hembree Family is from Phoenix, Arizona, and is currently navigating a life with a Duchenne muscular dystrophy diagnosis. Cole Hembree (11) lives with Duchenne, a progressive neuromuscular disorder that causes a loss of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function. He was diagnosed on his eighth birthday.

Crysta Hembree is a single mother to Cole and is his primary caregiver. They most enjoy playing video games and visiting with family.

Crysta struggles to get Cole to his medical appointments and daily functions due to the lack of accessible transportation. As Cole grows in size, it has become very difficult and not safe for his family to manually lift him, so he typically remains at home.

“I rely on Lyft or public transportation to go to the store, and Cole can’t come with me at all,” shares Crysta. “I also have to plan his medical appointments far in advance to make sure we can get there.”

The Hembree Family are participants in Jett Foundation’s Accessible Vehicle Fund branch of the Jett Giving Fund. They will aim to raise half or more of the funds needed for their accessible vehicle before Jett Foundation steps in to cover the remaining costs and purchase the vehicle outright.

The family says, “Having an accessible vehicle would take the worry away from missing appointments, school, and being able to safely run errands together. Cole loves to accomplish everything possible, and this would help him do that.”

The Hembree family has met their fundraising goal and received accessible transportation thanks to supporters like you! You can still support our program and future program participants with a gift to Jett Foundation today:

All donations to Jett Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed under applicable law and is an unrestricted contribution to the Jett Giving Fund. The family is working to raise half the funds needed for their van or more; when they reach their goal, Jett Foundation will cover the remaining costs and coordinate purchase and delivery of the vehicle.
