We’ve finally caught up on our sleep and are ready to look back at Camp Promise-West 2016. And, what an incredible week it was! We welcomed 34 campers from all over Washington State (including 3 who were new to CPW), thanks to the generosity of a record number of 68 volunteers from 9 states.
This year marked the triumphant return of the wheelchair-accessible pontoon boat, which had campers and counselors zipping across the bay. Canoeing was also a big hit and even the often-sighted-at-camp Sasquatch was spotted canoeing during breakfast one morning. And, new to our list of camp activities this year were accessible tractor rides with horses along the way!
CPW classic activities like Casino Night got a new twist with real tattoo artists giving us all temporary tattoos, while archery got a whole lot more fun with games and competitions. And, with our multi-session Transitions Program, our older campers spent time learning about expanding their friendship circles, dating, and relationships.
Camp wouldn’t be camp without some dancing, so midweek the Rec Hall was transformed into a lush and magical garden for our Secret Garden dance (thanks to several local nurseries letting us borrow their inventory for the night), and then quickly turned into a nautical-themed fanta-sea for prom on the last night of camp.
