A New Road Ahead: The Diemler Family Receives a New Accessible Van

October 13, 2026

On September 5, the Diemler family gathered with friends and loved ones outside their home in St. Louis, Missouri, to celebrate the arrival of their new accessible van from Jett Foundation’s Accessible Vehicle Fund. For 19-year-old Henry, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2011, the van means greater independence and freedom to get where he needs to go, especially as he begins his sophomore year of college.

Before the van, getting out of the house was difficult. Henry often relied on his mom, Claire, to help him in and out of their minivan. As Henry got older, lifting him and his wheelchair became more demanding, making everyday activities more challenging for the family.

Now, Henry can get in and out of the van quickly and independently. He can bring his power wheelchair wherever he goes, opening up new possibilities to explore St. Louis and spend time with his family and friends without having to worry about whether his wheelchair could come along.

For Claire, the van has brought a huge sense of relief. She knows Henry can travel more comfortably and safely, while also being part of the plans, conversations and experiences happening around him.

“This van is just such a gift. I really can’t express how thankful I am for Jett Foundation and to all of our supporters. We would not be able to do this on our own,” Claire says. “Disabilities are expensive. Duchenne is relentless and exhausting on so many levels for every member of the family.”

The first place Henry and his family took the van was the zoo, one of his favorite places. It was a perfect way to celebrate the start of a new school year and a new chapter in their lives.

After graduation, Henry’s family hopes to modify the van so he can eventually drive it himself.

Henry, we’re wishing you the best of luck as you begin your sophomore year of college! Cheers to plenty of adventures ahead!
