As wonderful as FaceTime is, there is simply no substitute for face-to-face time. Especially when you’re part of a community that only gathers in-person for one week each year. So for that one week, we ask everyone to leave video games, tablets, laptops, and cell phones at home, a policy the majority of camps nationwide have adopted as well.

Lucas attended Camp Promise-East for the first time in 2016. He was the youngest camper, but that detracted not one bit from his experience. If you’re an awesome person, who is all about the fun and is compassionate and caring, then chances are you’re counselor material.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS THIS YEAR’S APRIL FOOL’S DAY PRANK: We at Camp Promise have always had informal ties to the ad community through Camp Director Terin Izil’s day job as a copywriter. But this spring, The Beta Agency took on Camp Promise as a pro-bono client. “We’re hoping this will be the beginning of a long partnership,” said Abby Harris-Shea, the agency’s Chief Creative Officer. “We see how much passion lives in the Camp Promise community and want to make sure it shows in their marketing efforts.”

Every year we hear from folks that they want to come to camp, but they just aren’t sure they can make it because they have to work. We understand taking off a week to volunteer is a big deal and a big sacrifice, but in our humble opinion, we think it’s so, so worth it. In honor of Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday, and this season of thankfulness, we’re excited to share with you a blog post from Trey, a seven-year veteran camper at Camp Promise-East. After aging out of other camps for people with muscular dystrophy, Trey now attends Camp Promise and shared this piece with us after camp last year to show us what camp means to him and how thankful he is to be able to attend.

This year was a record breaking year for Camp Promise! We had our largest numbers of campers and volunteers EVER. More people meant more fun activities, bigger pranks, and some of the best theme days we have ever had.

As we get ready for our last camp of the season, Camp Promise-West, we’re overcome with memories of Camp Promise-East and Camp Promise-Rockies. It’s been an incredible summer with so many returning campers and staff, as well as many new faces who quickly became friends.

Meet Susan Friedman, a volunteer who was a counselor at Camp Promise in 2015. She was unable to attend camp in 2016 because that was the summer she began a legendary journey where she hiked more than 1,000 miles and raised almost $500 for Camp Promise.
